Members of the Board of Oban Bay Marine were involved in a number of meetings to progress Community Consultation, and input from stakeholders and other interested parties was sought. A community consultation meeting open to all with an interest in Oban Bay and the surrounding area chaired by Jim Mather MSP took places on Friday 18th January 2008 in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls

Initial seabed survey work commenced.
Oban's business community pledged support towards funding of planning for a proposed new pontoon and breakwater development for the inner harbour, including a Project Manager and various surveys.
The Board agreed to appoint Morag Brown as a consultant, funding officer and Project Manager for this development. Morag had previously been involved with a similar project for Tobermory Harbour.
Spring 2008
The Board and Morag Brown undertook the preparation
of a planning application to install pontoons in Oban Bay.

November 2008
All aspects in obtaining permission for the proposed Short Stay Pontoon Development within Oban Harbour
were concluded: detailed planning consent from Argyll and Bute council
- dredging consent from FRS Marine Lab. In Aberdeen
- Marine navigation and safety from Marine Coastguard Agency (Scottish Ex.)
Oban Bay Marine's plans to provide a short stay pontoon development in Oban was the highest scoring individual project in Argyll and Bute's Project Board for regeneration funds for the 5 towns of Argyll and was allocated a grant of £900,000, while meetings with other funding sources continued.
